Wall Shoe Organizer for plants – Are you a DIY enthusiast who enjoys all things crafty? Another example: you may be a disgruntled gardener who lives in an apartment with little outside area. Gardening with vertical planters or vertical gardening with shoe organizers are both excellent options for you, and this design is suitable for both! This is a fantastic low-cost and space-saving alternative to the traditional method.
Using Vertical Planters to Grow Your Garden
Vertical gardening with wall shoe organizers is an excellent option if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on those vertical planting bags. Vertical gardens in shoe organizers are also ideal for those of us who only have limited access to sunlight in our yards. Often, you will only get good sun exposure on the deck or the side of a shed, and you will get no sun exposure anywhere else in the yard. A shoe organizer garden is the ideal answer to this problem.
There are numerous locations to buy hanging shoe organizers. However, for those of you who like bargain hunting (like me! ), consider visiting your local thrift shop to get a used shoe organizer.
So, what more will you need while growing in vertical planters with shoe organizers, you may wonder? Besides a pole similar to a curtain rod and screws to attach it to the wall, you will also need durable hanging hooks, compost or high-quality potting soil, and plants or seeds to complete your project. There will also be a 22-inch (5-cm-long) piece of wood that is twice as long as the width of the shoe organizer and will be utilized to keep the pockets away from the wall as well.
In a wall shoe organizer, decide where you want to put your vertical garden. The side of a shed, garage, or fence that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight is the best choice. The robust pole or curtain rod should be attached to the side of the construction of your choice. Attach the hanging shoe organizer to the wall with strong hooks or wire.
Drainage should be checked by putting a small amount of water into each pocket. It’s time to plant if the soil drains easily from them. If not, puncture a few tiny holes into each pocket using a needle and thread. Place a trough or window box underneath the vertical garden if you wish to collect the water that drops from the shoe organizers.
If you want to optimize your gardening area, use the drip water as irrigation and plant in the trough or window box under the eaves or on the ground below.
It’s time to go to work planting. Fill each pocket to an inch (2.5 cm) below the rim with an excellent moisture-retaining compost or potting soil that has been well blended. It is possible that you may want to add water-retaining crystals at this point. Pour some water over some crystals in a container and mix well. Allow them to swell up with water and then incorporate them into the compost or potting soil mixture.
You may either sow seeds such as mustard greens or spinach or herbs or plants such as small tomatoes or flowers, or you may just add transplants and back-fill around the roots without filling the pocket with dirt.
Wall Shoe Organizer Gardens Care & Treatment
Following that, maintaining your vertical garden using shoe organizers is really straightforward. Maintain the moisture level of the plants. Water carefully and softly to avoid flushing the soil out of the pockets of the plant. Some plants, such as tomatoes, may need fertilizing; delayed-release granules should be used in this case. Don’t pluck too many salad leaves at once. Allowing the plant to regenerate will ensure that you have an uninterrupted supply of greens.
Remove any plants that are unhealthy, infected, or damaged. Aphids and other pests should be avoided. The fact that your garden is hanging means that other pests (such as slugs and snails) will be less inclined to eat your greens. In addition, your neighbor’s cat, or in my case, the squirrels, will be unable to access your fragile crops and dig them up if you use this method.
There’s also the option of employing those pocket planters that dangle from the ceiling, if you so choose! They both operate in a similar manner. See the video below:
